2025 Updates and Reflections

  • In 2025, we released our 7th studio album - Dust Bowl, and sang at venues including Columbia University’s Miller Theatre, Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival, Red Wing (MN)’s Anderson Center, and Chatter Albuquerque! We'll close out the calendar year in-studio in Chicago, recording Destierros by the brilliant Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon.

  • After fifteen years of performing together, our founding mezzo, Kayleigh Butcher, has decided to step back from Quince to focus on her New York-based work, including performing in productions of Robert Ashley operas, and helping run the renowned TIME:SPANS Festival.

But, with all change comes the opportunity for growth, and we are seizing the chance to expand our roster and invite new singers into the mix. We have met and sung with many fabulous performers over the years, and it is an absolute joy to add some names to our dance card, especially in our home base of Minnesota. Look out for these guest vocalists in the coming months:

  • We’re continuing our mission of supporting living composers, with new works from Clay Mettens and Molly Herron headlining exciting future programs. Their works will illuminate perspectives on stars and the heavens. Clay's piece, Flowers of the Sky, takes a poetic approach to understanding our complex human relationship to the stars. Molly's Stellar Atmospheres expands on an earlier work deriving text from the research of early astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, whose work is foundational to modern astrophysicists. We'll be performing a portion of Molly's piece on March 28 with Varo String Quartet at The CheckOut in Chicago!

  • This spring, we will take our wares on the road with a tour of Northern Iowa and Southeast Minnesota featuring the music of William Thomas McKinley, Gabriela Ortiz, David Dies, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon, supported by a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council. We will also collaborate with VARO String Quartet at The CheckOut in Chicago on March 28! Other upcoming projects for future seasons include Steve Reich's Tehillim with Cordancia, performances of Morton Feldman's Three Voices, a concert of Medieval and Renaissance music presented by Miller Theatre in New York, and more. Join our mailing list to stay up to date!

  • There is nothing quite like singing to calm the nervous system and create connection between people. It is such an honor to create harmony with each other, and to build new collaborations with artists who challenge and inspire us. As it becomes more and more difficult to cut through the noise and carve out space for human-made works of art, we feel ever galvanized and driven to use our voices and nurture the human spirit through song.
